TCCL conducted Factory Acceptance Tests witnessed by GRIDCO and AMANDI on 29th November and 20th December 2018. The tests were performed on ACSR TERN overhead line conductor manufactured by TCCL.

The test results were excellent. GRIDCO and AMANDI engineers congratulated TCCL for the excellent product manufactured.

This represents the first time a local cable and conductor manufacture has been given the opportunity to manufacture this product.

ACSR TERN conductor is used extensively by GRIDCO in the transmission network of the country. Contractors installing and working on Ghana’s electricity transmission network have always imported the product.

In her remarks, at the end of the Factory Acceptance Test, the Quality Manager for TCCL, Ing. Mrs. Irina Odame was full of appreciation to AMANDI, the subcontractor working on GRIDCO projects. She revealed that TCCL has been trying unsuccessfully for over 5 years to be given the opportunity to manufacture the product. However due to the supply and install policy of GRIDCO, the contractor given the GRIDCO projects have always insisted on importing the product.

It is understood that the Minister of Energy Honourable John-Peter Amewu encouraged AMANDI to allow TCCL (as a local manufacturer) the chance to bid for the job.

ACSR TERN was manufactured in accordance with ASTM B232 Standard Specification for Concentric-Lay-Stranded Aluminum Conductors, Coated-Steel Reinforced (ACSR) and as per contract agreement between Amandi Investments and TCCL.

The FAT programme included the following activities:

  • TCCL pre-factory presentation on cable manufacture and testing;
  • Factory tour;
  • Witnessing the manufacture of ACSR TERN.
  • Random selection of a sample and performance of tests in accordance with ASTM B232 in the presence of GRIDCO and AMANDI engineers.
